A Legend is born!

Early in 2007 the silver and metallic-looking spherical alien craft sped over the Mearns countryside until it hovered over the trees of Mineralwell Park. The occupants concurred, the hallowed turf at the centre of the cricket square was indeed the centre of all human existence.

The legend of Spender

The twelve foot lizard-like creatures set about disguising one of their number; he was instantly transferred into something akin to the short terrestrial creatures that inhabited the planet already, using DNA gathered from an earlier abduction of Jayne Middlemiss. The "male" version, it seems, has no hair! With the work complete a beam of light deposited the contents of their toils upon the consecrated ground beneath............

Who would have thought that 3 years later "Spender" would rise to the dizzy heights of 1st XI Captain for STCC. For 2010: Club Captain of Thistle.........tomorrow: THE WORLD!!!!!

And thus, a legend was born! Maybe a few more " Legends" would follow!

2009 Nice Weather for Ducks!

2008 was one of the best years the club has had in their history and was always going to be hard to follow. 2009 started well enough for STCC 1st XI but started to go down hill when availability and weather appeared to go against us. Rather than taking Thistle to heights they had not previously seen we tended to spend the end of the season staving off the prospects of relegation. Some main players were unavailable due to injury and others had "other commitments " during the season.

This led to the inevitable knock-on effect for the 2nd XI , who had to scratch games for the first time in several seasons and consequently finished 8th out of 10. Nigel King upheld the club honours at the ACA bash winning the Grade 3 Bowling Trophy.

STCC first XI has the potential to give any club a run for their money and have beaten every club in the "top flight" at some point in the last 2-3 years. What we need to do going forward is be "hard to beat" firstly and secondly play to the potential we all have.

We have laid a platform for change in 2010 and with the chance of a few new players we should be able to take the club back to where it should be.

STCC MISSION STATEMENT
"To play and promote Cricket, developing a club philosophy to encapsulate
moral values of community, team spirit and camaraderie."

STONEHAVEN THISTLE CRICKET CLUB
Established in 1872, Thistle play in Aberdeenshire Grades 1 and 3 at Mineralwell Park, Stonehaven. The Club has a thriving Junior section that played at Under 13 level in 2009. Our 2nd XI is a good maturing ground for older youths.
