Stonehaven Thistle 1st XI entertained Cults 2nds for the fourth game of the season at a warm but slightly cloudy mineralwell park, looking to maintain their unbeaten run this season.
Thistle started the proceedings after Cults won the toss and decided to bowl. They started well with A. Keith and A. Milroy pushing the score on to 33 off 6 over's but with the bowlers starting to find their rhythm Milroy was unlucky to play on, scoring 13. A Hinchliffe was in next and didn’t mess around scoring 2 sixes in quick succession but was soon out bowled by Rahul for 16 having a mighty swing and miss.
This brought D. Garden to the crease who showed patience and some good stroke play supporting Keith in pushing the score along to 87 when Keith, on 44, was bowled by Shrenath.
This brought J. Van de Ruit to the crease who didn’t hold back scoring 16 in his first over, eventually scoring 30 before being bowled by a clever delivery from Shiraz. M.Jenkins was next but only lasted 3 balls from Shiraz who eventually got 5 for 27.
A. Wilson and D.Garden pushed the score up to 160 before both being bowled by Manohoa in consecutive overs.
The rest of the tail were dismissed cheaply apart from C.hinchcliffe playing a solid role 16 not out, pushing the final score to 177 all out in 43 overs.
After tea Thistle were well prepared which showed after C.Hinchcliffe took a double wicket maiden making the score 4 for 2 off 4. The very next over J.Van de Ruit took the remaining opener with a plum LBW leaving Cults 2nds in real trouble.
C. Hinchcliffe then took another wicket 5 over later as Cults Crawled onto18 for 5.
This brought P.Gill to the crease who showed some defiance as more wickets tumbled until he was joined by Debo who helped push Cults onto 52 until P.Gill after a solid innings was tempted by a teaser from A.Wilson and was bowled for 20. Debo soon followed for 20 after a controversial run out. Cults were finally defeated all out for 75 off 32 overs. C.Hinchcliffe was the pick of the bowlers and finished on 5 for 15, J. Van de Ruit, C. Van de Ruit, A. Keith and A. Wilson all supported taking a wicket each.
Thistle maintain their third spot in the League just behind the two big teams and face the toughest test next week away at the Links to top of the league Culter Curry Bon Accord. Match ball was sponsored by the Marine Hotel.
