Methlick 2 - 2nd June 2007

Stonehaven Thistle 2nds Vs Methlick 2nds at Mineralwell Park,

The return of skipper Nigel King didn't help with the loss of the toss,
resulting in Stonehaven being put into bat. Nigel opened with Bruce Findlay
and Sam Dickenson. The opening pair did very well to frustrate the Methlick
opening bowlers as Sam batted well for his 7 runs before his dismissal in
their opening partnership of 23 off of the first 13 overs.

Teenager Matthew Colvin came to the crease for the first time this season and immediately showed the Methlick bowlers that he wanted to increase the run rate. Along with Bruce they produced a 50 partnership which included 22 runs for Matthew.

As Matthew returned to the pavilion he let out the caged tiger
known as Steve Crozier. 30 overs had been bowled for only 73 runs, Steve
had the choice of watching paint dry or prowl on the sidelines like a caged
tiger, he chose the latter. Bruce Findlay didn't last much longer but he
had drained the life and blood out of the Methlick bowlers with his 27 runs
off of 35 overs. But it wasn't long before Steve was back in his cage with
his tail between his legs for only troubling the scorers with 7 runs. The
'portly' Methlick team were maybe thinking the tea interval was approaching
fast but the next two batsmen of Callum Findlay and Paul Hay had other
ideas. With their 40 partnership, they managed to see their team through to
Stonehaven's declaration of 132 for 5 from 46 overs, with Paul out on 21
runs and the 13 year old Callum not out on 19. The best of the bowling for
Methlick was B Anderson for his 2 wickets for 41 runs off of his 12 overs.

For the 2nd week running, young Matthew Greig took the opening wicket with
again the 2nd ball of his first over and final figures of 1 for 20. Nigel
King then took the next 3 wickets but Methlick had kept the scoreboard
ticking over with their total now 38 for 4 after only 12 overs. Sam
Dickenson then chipped in with a wicket with the score on 54 and the match
evenly poised. It was then that the Methlick batsmen of A Campbell and G
Gerrie took control of the game. Crozier, Hay and C. Findlay all had a bowl
but could not make a breakthrough. The Methlick batsmen's 71 partnership
was eventually broken with Nigel's 4th wicket(4 for 30) and the dismissal
of Gerrie for 36. Campbell saw his team across the winning line with an
undefeated 39 and Methlick on 133 runs for 6 wickets.

The man of the match for Stonehaven was Matthew Colvin for his excellent 22
runs for his first start of the season.
