Bon Accord 271 for 3.
Stonehaven 59 all out
For the last home game of the season Thistle 1st XI hosted Bon Accord. Skipper Clive Hinchcliffe won the toss and decided to field. His decision looked vindicated when Andy Meres went 3rd ball for no score but that was to be the highlight of the day as Bon Accord with some of the top batsmen in the league took advantage of the superb batting track.
The next wicket fell at 191 when Andy Win was LBW for 90 to Andrew Hinchcliffe. Fazal Awan went on to score 112 not out while Mirza’s quick knock of 52 pushed the score to 271 off 37.4 overs when Captain Malik declared for an early tea. Skipper Hinchcliffe was the best of the bowling with 2 for 53.
With just over 5 an over required for 52 overs Thistle should have been confident of posting a respectable total in the run chase. Unfortunately the flat track couldn’t save the Stonehaven batsmen who began a procession back to the pavilion.
After a slow but solid start Garden went of nought quickly followed by Milne for the same score. Veteran Drew Hinchcliffe steadied the ship with opener Ali Milroy until the latter went for 14 runs. When Drew was out for his customary LBW on 15, Thistle were 33 for 4.
Thistle needed some stability but Symon Jacobsen was on his way for 2. There followed a further 2 wickets with the score on 33, Captain Hinchcliffe suffering as the victim of Awan’s hat-trick ball. One run later Andrew Long followed his skipper and at 35 for 8, ignominy was on the cards. Having tried to regain stability and with the score on 59, Dave Long played a false shot and was caught on 5. Chris Van Der Ruit followed next ball leaving Brian Campbell stranded on 14 not out. Mirza recorded 5 for 15 while Awan’s fiqures were rescued with his hat-trick at 3 for 35.
With no fewer than six Stonehaven batsmen bowled for the accumulation of 3 runs they will have to look at their technique if they want to compete with the better teams in Grade 1 in 2008. Next week Thistle travel to Aberdeenshire |Cricket Club to play Mannofield.
