"UNOFFICIAL" match report (vs Bon Accord)

"The Southern African quartet piled into Stoff's Ferrari and went for a jawl down the boulevard. Sean and Jonno relating their recent exploits of nights out in SA.

Andy Meres and Rashid went to town with a quick run rate. I remember the score at 132 for no wicket, thinking: "This is going to be a long afternoon. Gleeful onlookers interrogated me on the absence of Long brothers.

The occasional calls of "Help please" from Captain Grewar were more for divine intervention than for passers-by to throw the ball back.

Aside from my digressions, the Bons piled on the runs before wickets began to tumble. Young "Stoffs" bowled with an intelligence that his senior opening bowlers will do well to copy and Brian had a good day with the ball, being on a hat trick at one stage. Captain Malik made his traditional march to the crease, only to depart next ball. Thankfully he called a halt after 39 overs on 229 for 6.

Now all Thistle had to do was bat for 51 overs to reach the total. From batting no 2 last week to no 7 this, I went to the loo and when I came back we were 3 wickets down. Sorry guys but I blinked and missed your innings'. Ok, so I know Brian got a few, and Donald 13 I think and finally Bazza Milne seemed to be finding his touch with 13 or 14. I seemed to be batting for ages, greeting a succession of tail-enders in my slow crawl to 12, running out Sean, who to be fair, in his first game for Thistle, and first game since school hit some fine shots before I ran him out. Having seen off the openers LM came on to bowl.

The quizzical look of Jim Morrison in the direction of the scorers as they shouted: "Bowlers name" when he marked his run up, just about sums up Thistle 1st XI at the moment. So many changes that those on the sideline honestly didn't know who he was. Rather than explain I just quipped from the non-striker's end: "they probably don't recognise you with your new haircut." To which the Neutral Umpire doubled up with mirth.

That is my next point. Does anyone know who he is?? I know the face, and he obviously knows me .............. In my defence his face is out of context with the location. Any pointers?

Clive and Pete Law managed to put on some good runs between them, how though as Pete was almost incapacitated by this stage. Just when it looked as though a draw was a possibility Clive was bowled to leave us on 70 odd, or was it 90???

Still, at least it was about 10 points instead of 2.
