2004 STCC Tour to Worcester

The 2004 tour to Worcestershire was expertly arranged by Mark Beloeil-Smith and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Our first fixture I recall was V. Old Vigornians CC, Worcester, at New Road, not the actual New Road CCC ground but a corker of a pitch next to it in sight of the cathedral. It didn't stop Ash from hitting the CCC scoreboard with a huge six though.

Try hitting the next one Saucy!Next day it was on to Pershore CC. but not before a very informative morning tour of the Fearnley factory. Drew Hinchcliffe just couldn't resist buying a bat! At Pershore, who Mark apparently played for, it was easy to forget the grumpy scorer but no-one will forget their fast bowler (a corker in more ways than one and a member of the Under 19 Ladies England cricket team)! I still had time to note they had a roller to rival ours (in age anyway). I wasn't the only one, "Saucy" even took a picture of it! An excellent curry night for afters. Former STCC stalwart Geoff Wright and his wife helped to polish off the Indian.

The third match was at Overbury, Tewkesbury, and after a day off at Alton Towers it was off to Ashton-Under-Hill CC after a lunch at Mark's parents house. This match was officiated by a blind glaswegian umpire ..........no wonder we lost.

After 4 matches and 4 defeats, it didn't matter.........all we had to do was drive home again!!!

PS: Their lady bowler looked even better with her warpaint on when we met her in a Club downtown on the last night.....after a few pints I even forgave her for bowling me third ball for nought!

1992 STCC Tour to Cirencester

This was the tour that coined such phrases as: "Its only a Nova!" and "Leg Style" (a field placing, no less) and the infamous "Fines Committee" sat, aka: Ian Rennie.

No sooner had the cricket bags touched the floor and we were off to sample the delights of the Roman town of Cirencester. Next day North Cerney was the venue where STCC were joined by former player and fast bowler Dave Wheadon for a trip down memory lane, and Leg Style got the biggest fine on the night! The second match was V.Rendcomb College at Rendcomb College. After a delayed start due to rain the match was tied on the last ball 141 apiece. On a day off we visited the 3D shop in Cheltenham and had a delicious lunch of Roast Beef etc. in a superb country pub.

After the night out on the town (another one) where Angie (soon to be Hinchcliffe) cracked a tooth in the local curry house and Danny Cohen went into "sue mode" the third match was at ?Covington? , played on a hill and where Clive managed to dent a very nice-looking Mercedes (nice-looking before the dent)! I think we won that one. (Incidentally, that was to be Clive's last 6 hit for fifteen years.) A thoroughly enjoyable tour and one organised by Nigel King, so the guy has a track record...........roll on 2007!
