Stonehaven Thistle 1st XI were at home on Sunday for the first Aberdeenshire cup game of the season; Inverurie the visiting team.
Inverurie won the toss and decided to bat. Thistle opened the bowling with Clive Hinchcliffe and Chris Van De Ruit looking to get early wickets but with a fast outfield and great sunny conditions Inverurie raced onto 20 off 5 overs for no wicket, pushing hard early on to get as much runs as possible being 2 men short of a full team.
Van De Ruit got the breakthrough wicket bowling Hadden for 16. Inverurie’s number 3 and 4 batsmen soon followed, being out cheaply but with Murrison on form, Norval joined him and pushed thistle hard in the sweltering conditions, running the score onto154 for3 off 32.
David Crozier spun his way into the attack and got Norval and Murrison both out in one over, exposing the Inverurie tail enders.
With only 8 overs left thistle turned the screw and managed to restrict Inverurie to 176 for 6 off 40.
D.Crozier was the pick if the bowlers with 3 for 52 off 12 overs, Van Der Ruit and Andrew Long also taking a wicket each.

After tea Thistle had a real chance to get the total required and after yesterdays shocker, the batsmen were eager to get some runs. Alex Keith and Ali Milroy did just this racing the score onto 41 for 0 off just 7 overs but with Keith injured earlier on in the game, he struggled at the crease and was bowled for 12.
Chris Van De Ruit needed to leave early came in at number 3 and had the innings of his life smashing an excellent 35 off 28 balls, 19 of them coming from 1 over. Van De Ruit was finally caught out but had entertained the spectators and put Thistle in the drivers seat with the score on 103 off 19 overs.
Andrew Hinchcliffe who had been supporting Van De Ruit decided to get in on the run scoring and set about the Inverurie bowlers with ease, hitting 4 sixes in his innings and with the support of D.Crozier and Denis Garden eased Thistle home to victory, finishing on 177 off 34 overs for 6 wickets.
A.Hinchcliffe top scored on 57 not out, C.Van De Ruit next with a splendid 35 and A.Milroy also scoring 29.
