Thistle First XIs Match report 8th July 2006
Thistle making headway to mid-table……
Stonehaven 1st XI vs St. Ronald 1st XI:
A brief downpour looked to delay play when St. Ronald, currently sitting bottom of grade 1, visited Mineralwell park at the weekend. The covers were quickly applied and the 1pm start upheld successfully. Following St. Ronald winning the toss they elected to bat first on a damp outfield that quickly took any shine off the ball. St. Ronald, struggling to field a team of late, turned out with only 10 men.
Nigel king, 2 nd XI captain, opened the bowling due to some 1 st XI absences and lack of a 2 nd XI fixture and quickly dislodged Barnett, the opener with a Yorker. Keith and Camilleri were tougher to unseat however and put on 94 for the second wicket before Snelling removed Camilleris leg stump for 55 whilst he attempted to hit a slower ball. Snelling was causing the batmen problems with the slow pitch and bowled Zshtiag for 7 and caught Moir LBW for 0 before capturing the prized wicket of A. Keith for 49. The tail looked to be all but mopped up for under 130 until the final wicket stand of nearly 50 runs by Stanley and Stephen which included some fine hitting from Stanley who ended 31 not out. 181 all out was the final score, the last wicket falling in the 45 th over. Impressive final figures of 5-51 were the best ever for Bryan Snelling and from the volume of his celebrations; you could tell he was pleased!
The Thistle opening pair of Garden and Jacobsen put on a superb 107 before Jacobsen being caught of a top edge whilst trying to dispatch another delivery into the carpark or river, the same location as four huge sixes in an explosive innings of 69. (perhaps the thought of having to be in Edinburgh for 7.30 was considered?) Garden survived to score 33 in his first game of the season and Milne provided a 12 run cameo before being run out with an impressive direct hit. Captain Grewar and keeper Jenkins came in at 5 and 6 with 50+ runs required and plenty of time to hit the runs and proceeded to knock off the remaining runs leaving Grewar 11 not out and Jenkins with 30 not out. A valuable win for Stonehaven takes them to 7th , hot on the heals of Queens cross.
