Stonehaven Thistle 2nds Vs St Ronald's 2nds

Match Day - 19th August 2006
Venue-Mineralwell
Scores – Stonehaven Thistles 107-7 Win for Stonehaven
St Ronald’s 77 all out

After a slightly delayed start due to a wet outfield, the game got underway at 1.40PM.
St Ronald's won the toss and opted to field. The two captains agreed that the game should be reduced to 35 overs per side.
The batting for Stonehaven Thistle was opened by Pete Law and Sam Dickinson.
Sam, having got his eye in, got a lifter which he nicked to the keeper. At the fall of the first wicket, newcomer Matthew Chey joined Peter, who by now was starting to stroke the ball well. Mathew, having lasted a couple of overs was the next batsmen out but not before showing considerable promise….and on his first outing too.
Next batsmen in was Andrew Chey - again first outing for him – and he demonstrated a very straight bat with enormous potential. With practice, he has the potential to be a good candidate to open the innings. Andrew was unlucky to be run out.
Next batsmen in was David Wallace. It did not take long for David to get going. David played sensibly waiting for the loose deliveries, which he punished. Along with Peter, the highest partnership of the innings was recorded in very good time. Peter was next to go but not before contributing a valuable 29 runs against St Ronald’s…smashing his bogey with this team.
David then partnered the ever-improving Duncan who batted with real maturity and contributed well in the partnership. David, going for one hit too many, was next out for 38 - but not before recording the highest score of the innings and his (yet young) career.
Duncan was now partnered by Lincoln. With overs now starting to run out Lincoln hit a quick 13 before “skying” one to mid-on. Others who batted were Callum Finlay and Callum Grewar. Duncan remained unbeaten on 15.
Time to field and the new ball was handed to Mathew Grieg who did not disappoint. He took his first wicket in the second over of the day. Mathew bowled his overs out in one spell and had a haul of three wickets. With all the other bowlers contributing in turn, the team helped out with some very good fielding. Sam Dickinson nearly brought off a spectacular catch in the slips.
Team spirit was great and everyone contributed to the win - sweet revenge for the heavy defeat suffered against the same team a few weeks earlier.
Finally, we must not forget to mention St Ronald’s who played the game in the right spirit - making it a great day for all. A special mention goes to opening bat M. Ahmed (who was top scorer), for walking when he gave the faintest of edges of glove to the wicketkeeper not picked up by the umpire.
All in all a memorable day and full credit to a very fresh and enthusiastic seconds team…….well done, the Thistles……
